Serbian Monasteries Embrace Solar Power to Boost Sustainability and Cut Costs
Several Serbian monasteries, including the historic Zica Monastery and the Monastery of St. Stephen in Lipovac, have adopted solar power to enhance self-sustainability and reduce electricity costs. These monasteries, located in regions with favorable solar conditions, are utilizing solar energy to generate substantial power savings and support heritage preservation. Father Rafailo of the Monastery of the Most Holy Theotokos cited the inspiration from Mount Athos and the practical benefits during power outages. The move aligns with Serbia's goal to increase its renewable energy share to 45.2% by 2030, supported by significant investments in renewable projects.
