Ukraine's Largest Foreign Investment in Lviv: €75M Wind Farm Begins Operations
The Lviv region’s largest foreign investment during the full-scale war, a €75 million wind farm, has commenced operations. The project was a joint effort, with the Czech company MND and Ukraine’s Eco-Optima each contributing 50%. The wind farm, featuring 10 turbines, transmits electricity via a 14-kilometre line to a Ukrenergo substation for distribution to towns and villages. It already generates 12% of the region’s alternative energy.
The project, however, faced significant challenges due to the war. Initially, foreign companies hesitated to deliver and install equipment, forcing Eco-Optima to take on the task themselves. The Ukrainian firm acquired a 600-tonne crane, the only one in Ukraine, and completed the installation with local specialists.
Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, expressed gratitude to Tomáš Kopeční, the Czech government’s commissioner for Ukraine’s reconstruction, and Jana Hamršmidová, CEO of MND’s energy division, for their support.
Ukreximbank partnered in the project, ensuring all payments remain within Ukraine, and taxes contribute to the national budget. In addition to energy independence, the project created jobs, improved infrastructure, and attracted tourists to nearby towns. More wind farm projects are already underway in the region.
