Ukraine's Electricity Exports Surge to 17-Month High in March Amid Increased Imports Following Russian Attacks

Ukraine more than doubled its electricity exports in March to 154.1 thousand MWh, reaching a 17-month peak, Energy Map reports.

Despite significant challenges including Russian military strikes on energy infrastructure, which necessitated a temporary halt in exports in October 2022 and a reduction to minimal levels in March 2024, the country has shown resilience by importing 2.2 times more electricity in the latter half of March than in the first.

The largest share of March's electricity exports went to Poland, accounting for 41% of the total, while imports primarily came from Hungary.

Comparatively, March's import figures were nearly 24 times higher than the same month last year, with no electricity exports recorded in March 2023. Amidst these fluctuations, Ukraine has also provided emergency energy support to neighboring countries, highlighting the ongoing impact of the conflict on its energy sector.
