Ukraine Unveils First Industrial-Scale Energy Storage Facility

Kness, a Ukrainian company based in Vinnytsia, has developed Ukraine's first industrial-scale energy storage facility capable of storing both conventional and renewable energy. The battery, with a capacity of 1 MW, was highlighted by Dmytro Kysylevsky, deputy chairman of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada committee on economic development, who made the announcement on his Facebook page.

According to AgroTimes, this breakthrough comes at a critical time as Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure have increased demand for such solutions. The Kness battery is designed to store and supply electricity to the grid, enhancing the flexibility and reliability of Ukraine's energy system.

More than 50% of the equipment used in the facility is Ukrainian-made, and the energy storage software was also developed locally. Kysylevsky emphasized the importance of expanding industrial energy storage to secure Ukraine’s power system. Kness, already a key player in the renewable energy sector, also manufactures support structures for solar panels, used in many Ukrainian solar power plants with a total capacity of 1 GW.

Latvian companies in the green energy sector have also shown interest in Kness’s solar panel structures. This development marks a significant step in Ukraine's energy independence and resilience amidst ongoing challenges.
