Ukraine Seeks U.S. Investment in Energy and Critical Materials Sectors at Washington Forum
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko presented investment opportunities in Ukraine’s energy and critical materials sectors at the 5th Energy Transition Forum 2024. The event was attended by global energy companies and firms specializing in critical material extraction.
“The United States is one of the most active partners in supporting the Ukrainian energy system,” Svyrydenko said, highlighting nearly $1 billion in USAID aid allocated to Ukraine's energy sector since the Russian invasion. She underscored the role of the recently launched five-year SPARC project in strengthening Ukraine’s energy security, urging other institutions and the private sector to join in.
Despite ongoing war challenges, Svyrydenko emphasized the profitability of investing in Ukraine’s energy system and mining projects. She invited American companies to establish joint ventures to enhance oil and gas production and explore partnerships in critical raw materials. Opportunities include collaboration with license holders or obtaining licenses directly from the Ukrainian government.
The Minister called for the localization of production in Ukraine, fostering cooperation with Ukrainian energy firms. She expressed gratitude for U.S. support in rebuilding Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, heavily damaged by Russian strikes.
