Sunly to Build Estonia's Largest Photovoltaic Farm in Risti, Hybrid Project Planned
Estonian renewable energy developer Sunly has commenced construction of the Solar Park Risti, a 244 MW photovoltaic farm in the Lääne region of western Estonia. This will be the largest solar installation in the Baltic countries, surpassing Lithuania’s 100 MWp PV farm launched earlier this year. The project began in late November, with completion scheduled for autumn 2026.
The €125 million investment includes advanced tracking systems to optimize energy production and will meet the electricity needs of approximately 55,000 Estonian households. Developed in partnership with Metsagrupp and built by Connecto, the project also includes plans for a hybrid energy park. Future phases aim to integrate energy storage with a capacity of 244 MW and nine wind turbines.
In collaboration with the Lääne-Nigula commune, Sunly will contribute 0.6% of solar park revenues to the local government, estimated at €75,000 annually for 25 years. The agreement may extend to provide preferential electricity pricing for locals if the wind park is realized.
Sunly has secured €300 million from Scandinavian and French investors, including Rivage Investment, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, and Norwegian pension fund KLP, to expand hybrid energy projects across the Baltics and Poland. CEO Priit Lepasepp highlights the initiative's potential to stabilize electricity prices.
