Solaris to Deliver Award-Winning Hydrogen Buses to Konin by 2026
Solaris Bus & Coach has secured a contract with MZK Konin to deliver five articulated Urbino 18 hydrogen buses, marking the debut of this model in Poland. The agreement, signed recently, aligns with the city’s commitment to zero-emission public transport and is scheduled for completion in 2026.
This decision follows Konin’s earlier adoption of hydrogen technology with the 2022 delivery of the Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen bus—the first hydrogen bus for public transport in Poland. The new 18-meter articulated buses will feature cutting-edge hydrogen systems, including a 100 kW fuel cell, eight composite tanks storing 50 kg of hydrogen at 350 bar, and Solaris High Power batteries for peak energy demands. A 240 kW electric engine will power the vehicles.
The Urbino 18 hydrogen model was recently awarded the prestigious European Bus of the Year 2025 title, following rigorous testing. Already operational in cities like Cologne, Aschaffenburg, and Barcelona, the model exemplifies advanced sustainable transport solutions.
“The mission of Solaris is to advance sustainable urban mobility. We are proud that Konin is investing in zero-emission technologies,” said Mateusz Figaszewski, Institutional Partnerships & External Relations Director at Solaris Bus & Coach.
This investment is part of a larger regional project co-financed by Poland’s National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management. The initiative also includes a new bus depot, a transfer hub at the railway station, and an intelligent traffic management system.
