Serbia Temporarily Halts Grid Connections for Some Renewable Projects Amid Balancing Concerns

Serbia's transmission system operator, Elektromreža Srbije (EMS), has announced a delay in grid connections for new solar and wind projects lacking a grid connection study contract, citing risks to system stability from insufficient balancing reserves, writes Balkan Green Energy News. This decision follows an adequacy analysis within the 2023-2032 Transmission System Development Plan, recently approved by Serbia's Energy Agency. However, the delay does not affect 27 wind and five solar projects already holding necessary contracts, covering a total of 5,383 MW in planned capacity. Projects can bypass the delay by securing additional secondary reserve capacity. This move aligns with the April 2023 Renewable Energy Law, aiming to maintain system reliability amid a push for increased renewable integration.
