Serbia Signs MoU with France's AFD to Support Energy Transition

Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the French Development Agency (AFD) on Wednesday to advance Serbia's energy transition efforts.

The cooperation will focus on innovative tools and solutions to help Serbia achieve climate objectives and align with EU standards, the Ministry of Mining and Energy stated.

The project will be financed under AFD's Program 2050, which supports low-carbon development models. Donations for the initiative will amount to €650,000.

"Energy plays a key role in Serbia-France bilateral relations, as evidenced by agreements signed earlier this year in nuclear energy and strategic raw materials," Djedovic Handanovic said. She emphasized the project's aim to integrate best practices from developed countries, develop renewable energy sources, and ensure energy security alongside a fair energy transition process.

AFD Director Remy Rioux highlighted the agency’s commitment, saying, "This agreement underscores AFD's dedication to supporting Serbia in building a sustainable energy future."

The partnership marks a significant step in Serbia's efforts to modernize its energy sector and strengthen its EU accession aspirations.
