Romania's Solar Energy Output Surges by 55.1% in First Ten Months of 2024 – INS
Solar energy production from photovoltaic (PV) installations in Romania reached 3.18 billion kWh between January and October 2024, a 55.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) reported on Friday. This figure includes contributions from prosumers.
Thermal power plants generated 14.06 billion kWh, a 1.2% decrease, while hydroelectric power plants produced 12.53 billion kWh, down 21.3%. Nuclear power plants generated 8.9 billion kWh, a 4.3% decline. Wind power plants contributed 5.07 billion kWh, a decrease of 18.2%.
Final electricity consumption rose 1.3% year-on-year to 41.55 billion kWh. Economic consumption reached 31.54 billion kWh, up 0.9%, while household consumption increased by 3% to 9.69 billion kWh. Public lighting dropped by 2.4% to 327.2 million kWh. Electricity exports fell 3.6% to 9.10 million kWh, while imports surged 59.7% to 10.82 billion kWh. Technological consumption in networks and stations declined by 3.3% to 3.92 billion kWh.
Primary energy resources totaled 27 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), down 1.5%, or 414,900 toe. Domestic production dropped 4.9% to 14.09 million toe, while imports increased by 2.5% to 12.92 million toe. Electricity resources rose marginally by 0.1% compared to the first ten months of 2023.
