Prologis Secures €225 Million EIB Loan for Solar and Energy Storage Projects in Europe

Prologis, a global leader in logistics real estate, has announced plans to install solar panels and energy storage systems across its warehouses in the European Union. This initiative aligns with the company’s strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide Prologis with a €225 million loan to accelerate photovoltaic projects. The funding supports the installation of solar panels on warehouse roofs and the development of energy storage systems. These investments will lower electricity bills, enhance energy security, and reduce CO2 emissions. Excess energy generated will be stored or sold to the grid.

The project will cover facilities in Germany, Belgium, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Poland. Completion is targeted for 2026. Prologis's efforts align with the EU REPowerEU initiative, aimed at bolstering energy efficiency and sustainability.

The EIB, owned by the 27 EU Member States, allocated over €2.1 billion for projects in Belgium in 2023. Belgium holds 5.2% of the bank’s shares. Prologis joins other companies like Greenyard Logistics Polska and Rehau Window Solutions in adopting photovoltaic systems for energy savings and emission reductions.
