Polish Grid Operators PSE and Energa-Operator Plan Network Expansion to 2033 to Support New Energy Sources
Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) and Energa-Operator have agreed on a joint concept for the development of their power grids, focusing on increasing the connection possibilities of new energy sources. The plan, covering the time horizon until 2033, addresses the expected surge in new energy generation in northern Poland, particularly from offshore wind farms and a planned nuclear power plant in the Baltic Sea.
The first stage of this collaboration has been completed, involving analyses of network development until 2033. The ongoing second stage extends the planning to 2038, aiming to assess the future needs of the National Power System (KSE). This expansion is crucial to manage the new directions of electricity flow in Poland and ensure safe and reliable power supply.
The project includes the development of Energa-Operator’s 110 kV distribution network, aligning it with PSE's plans, and assessing the security of electricity supply under various scenarios. Energa-Operator has independently conducted these analyses, identifying necessary investments to maintain the stability of the KSE amid Poland’s growing energy demands. These findings will inform future updates to the Energa-Operator Development Plan.
This joint effort highlights the need for new infrastructure to accommodate the evolving energy landscape, ensuring the sustainable development of Poland's energy system.
