Poland's Stoen Operator Secures PLN 12 Million for Energy Storage Project
Poland’s eco fund has granted Stoen Operator, part of German utility E.ON, PLN 12 million (USD 3 million/EUR 2.8 million) to co-finance an energy storage initiative aimed at stabilising Warsaw’s electricity network. The financing comes under the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management’s PLN 1 billion programme supporting energy storage for grid stabilisation amid the growing use of renewable energy and electric vehicle charging points.
The project will see the construction of ten energy storage facilities, each with a capacity of 150 kW/200 kWh, in the Polish capital. With a total cost exceeding PLN 20 million, the initiative is slated for completion in 2027. These facilities aim to stabilise energy quality parameters and bolster the power grid’s reliability, according to Agnieszka Okonska of Stoen Operator’s management team.
Stoen Operator noted that Warsaw's rising energy demands necessitate investments in smart grids, flexibility projects, and storage solutions to ensure grid stability and optimise renewable energy use.
