Poland's Electric Vehicle Registrations Rise 20% Y/Y to 24,811 Units in January-July 2024

The number of electric passenger cars and plug-in hybrids registered in Poland increased by 20% year-on-year to 24,811 units in the period from January to July 2024, according to data from the Polish Association of New Mobility (PSNM) and the Polish Automotive Industry Association (PZPM). Registrations of fully electric vehicles (BEVs) rose 10.21% to 12,854 units, while plug-in hybrid registrations surged 32.44% to 11,957 units. By the end of July 2024, a total of 70,579 BEVs were registered in Poland, with the electric passenger car fleet totaling 122,299 vehicles.

In addition to the rise in passenger car registrations, the fleet of electric delivery vehicles and trucks increased to 7,070 units, and electric mopeds and motorcycles reached 21,840 units. The number of publicly available electric vehicle charging points also grew, with 7,563 points (4,163 stations) available across the country, 29% of which were fast direct current (DC) charging points.

Concerns have arisen following the suspension of subsidies under the "Mój Elektryk" program starting September 1, 2024. The program, crucial for zero-emission vehicle purchases by companies, may impact future demand for BEVs in Poland, especially as leasing—a popular option among entrepreneurs—is affected. Industry leaders, including PZPM President Jakub Faryś and PSNM Director Jan Wiśniewski, have voiced concerns over the suspension's potential to disrupt Poland's transition to zero-emission vehicles.
