Pine Gate Renewables to Launch 1,200 MW Sunstone Solar Project in Oregon
Pine Gate Renewables will launch the Sunstone Solar project in Oregon, USA, using approximately 4 million solar panels to generate 1,200 MW of electricity—enough to power 800,000 households annually, according to Interesting Engineering. The company plans to invest over $1,000 per acre to support local agriculture and contribute $11 million to a fund benefiting wheat farmers in Morrow County.
Construction is set to begin in 2026, following design and procurement in early 2025. The project will connect to the Bonneville Power Administration grid via the Umatilla Electric Cooperative system. Pine Gate Renewables, which acquired Sunstone Solar from Gallatin Power Partners in 2022, already owns and operates 17 solar projects in Oregon.
The Sunstone Solar project aligns with Oregon's goal of generating all electricity from clean energy by 2040, contributing to reduced environmental pollution during power generation.
Separately, Japan Space Systems announced successful tests of a system for transmitting solar energy from space using microwaves, while researchers from Tohoku University developed transparent solar cells with high energy efficiency.
