The Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, a joint project by Poland’s PGE Baltica and Denmark’s Ørsted, is transitioning from the investment preparation phase to implementation, announced Bartosz Fedurek, CEO of PGE Baltica, during the Offshore Wind Poland conference. The project’s financial closure, utilizing a project finance model with international and domestic institutions, is expected by Christmas 2024.

Construction began earlier this year in the Choczewo commune, where an onshore transformer station is underway. Offshore turbine installation and project commissioning are planned for 2027. Baltica 2 will feature 107 Siemens Gamesa turbines, each with a 14 MW capacity, and will generate 1.5 GW of green energy for up to 35 years.

Key contracts include agreements with Navantia-Windar, Orient Cable (NBO), and Steelwind Nordenham for turbine foundations and cables, as well as Polimex Mostostal and GE Vernova for onshore infrastructure. The farm’s development builds on 11 years of preparation, marking a milestone in Poland's renewable energy ambitions.
