OnPath Energy Opens Sunderland HQ, Unveils Bold Net-Zero Vision

OnPath Energy, a leading renewable energy firm, officially inaugurated its new headquarters in Sunderland, unveiling ambitious plans to support the UK’s transition to net zero. The business, which operates ten onshore wind farms across Scotland and northern England, currently manages 143MW of operational onshore wind projects and has 200MW consented and 260MW in planning. Additionally, OnPath has 300MW of battery storage projects and is exploring solar farm developments.

CEO Richard Dunkley credited the UK Labour Government’s accelerated net-zero strategy for enabling OnPath’s growth. Elected last July, the Labour-led government aims to achieve a clean power grid by 2030, with gas comprising no more than 5% of electricity generation. To support this, a dedicated ‘Mission Control’ unit, led by former Climate Change Committee CEO Chris Stark, has been established.

Bridget Phillipson MP, who inaugurated the Sunderland facility, emphasized clean energy’s potential to drive economic transformation, creating skilled jobs and boosting investment. OnPath Energy has already created 30 jobs in the past year, with plans for further expansion.

Dunkley reaffirmed OnPath’s commitment to investing in high-quality renewable infrastructure, contributing to lower energy costs, improved energy security, and a “just transition” that benefits all.

The UK’s net-zero agenda, legislated in 2019, continues to evolve, with the new Industrial Strategy expected in early 2025 to address job creation and skills development essential for the energy transition.
