OMV Petrom Seeks Builders for 710-MW Solar Project in Romania
Romania's leading oil and gas company, OMV Petrom SA, has launched a search for contractors to develop a 710-MW solar power complex in Teleorman County. The project, named THEIA, involves the construction and maintenance of three photovoltaic parks in the villages of Merisani and Babaita. The initiative will be divided into four lots, including three for the solar parks with capacities of 242 MWp, 219 MWp, and 247 MWp, and a fourth for associated power transmission infrastructure.
With an April 18, 2024, deadline for expressions of interest, OMV Petrom is paving the way for significant renewable energy development, aiming to connect the facilities to the national grid via the existing Slatina-Bucuresti overhead line. This move marks a substantial shift towards green energy for the traditionally fossil fuel-oriented company.
