OMV Petrom Awards EPCC Contract for 89 MWp Ișalnița Solar Project in Romania
OMV Petrom, Southeast Europe's largest integrated energy producer, has awarded an engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) contract for its first large-scale photovoltaic project, the Ișalnița solar park in Dolj county, Romania. The project, with an installed capacity of approximately 89 MWp and estimated annual production of 130 GWh, marks a significant step in OMV Petrom's renewable energy ambitions.
The contract was secured by a consortium of Romanian firms: Actual Connect S.R.L., Global Technical Systems S.A., Bit Invest S.R.L., and Alpin Sun S.R.L., chosen after a competitive selection. Together, these companies bring experience from over 700 MW in photovoltaic projects across Europe, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Romania.
Construction is set to begin shortly, with completion expected in the first half of 2026. Franck Neel, OMV Petrom’s Executive Board Member for Gas & Power, highlighted the project’s milestone status as the company advances its renewable energy portfolio, aiming for 2.5 GW in capacity.
Additionally, OMV Petrom has submitted a plan under Romania's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) for a 36 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Ișalnița, with an 18 MW grid injection capacity.
In 2023, OMV Petrom reported oil and gas production of 41 million barrels of oil equivalent. It also operates an 860 MW gas-fired power plant and runs approximately 780 fuel stations across Romania and neighboring regions. Shareholder structure as of end-2023 includes 51.2% owned by OMV Aktiengesellschaft, 20.7% by the Romanian state, and 28.1% as free float on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
