New Joint Venture to Revolutionize Agriculture and Energy in Burundi

A transformative joint venture between Jitmat (U) Ltd, Facet Power, Inc., and Jeni Eco Company, Ltd. aims to reshape agriculture, energy, and climate technology in Burundi. The project will process sweet sorghum into sugar, bioethanol, animal feed, biochar, renewable electricity, and carbon offsets, addressing global challenges like food security, energy access, and climate adaptation.
By cultivating sweet sorghum through a nucleus farm and smallholder model, the initiative will enrich soil health, support local farmers, and reduce carbon emissions. Biochar, a key output, restores soil fertility while sequestering carbon. “This is not just about agriculture or energy—it’s about creating an inclusive, sustainable system benefiting the environment, economy, and people,” said representatives of Jitmat (U) Ltd.
The project, located in the Nyamuswaga Valley, Muyinga Province, is anchored in a Public-Private Partnership with Burundi’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. It aligns with Vision 2040-2060, emphasizing agricultural productivity and climate resilience.
The venture is expected to benefit 3 million households, create jobs, and train farmers in regenerative practices. Jitmat (U) Ltd, Jeni Eco Company, and Facet Power, Inc. bring expertise in rural growth, circular economies, and decarbonization technologies, positioning Burundi as a leader in sustainable development.
