Moldova’s Mediacor to Install Solar Photovoltaic System with USAID Funding

Moldova’s first digital media production center, Mediacor, will soon be equipped with a solar photovoltaic system, enhancing its energy sustainability and reducing operational costs. The project, supported by funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) totaling approximately $150,000, is set for completion next year, according to IPN reports. This strategic move positions Moldova State University (MSU), the institution that houses Mediacor, as a leader in adopting green technology and innovation within the region.

MSU has emphasized that the installation of photovoltaic panels will enable Mediacor to generate 100% of its electricity needs, resulting in significant operational savings. The university projects annual savings exceeding 640,000 lei, underlining the initiative’s potential to enhance Mediacor’s financial and operational autonomy.

The photovoltaic system project was formally approved during the MSU Senate session. It forms part of the U.S.-supported #MoldovaConnected initiative, which seeks to advance Moldova’s technological and economic integration by supporting forward-thinking infrastructure investments.
