Moldova Approves New Regulation to Streamline Renewable Energy Projects
Moldova’s Energy Minister, Victor Parlicov, announced the approval of a new regulation aimed at facilitating the authorization of renewable energy capacities, particularly those operating on the free market without support schemes. The regulation, which targets power plants above 20 MW, is expected to enhance predictability for investors.
The regulation was drafted by Moldova’s Ministry of Energy to make the process of obtaining necessary documents for the construction, reconstruction, or expansion of power plants more efficient and transparent. The Authorization Commission will evaluate project applications based on technical credibility, compliance with state energy policies, connection to the electricity grid, and land eligibility.
Accepted applications will be voted on by Moldova’s cabinet ministers, with government decisions valid for 60 months. Parlicov highlighted that this regulation would align installed technologies with the state’s energy policies.
Exceptions to the procedure will be available for generators approved under tenders. In January, Moldova announced its first renewables auction to procure 105 MW of wind and 60 MW of solar energy, with results expected by the end of the year.
