Moldova and AFD Sign €25 Million Financing Agreement for Energy Green Transition Program
Moldova and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) signed a €25 million financing agreement today to support Moldova’s Energy Green Transition Program. The agreement, signed during the Fifth Ministerial Moldova Partnership Conference, strengthens Moldova's commitment to energy reform and sustainability.
High-level attendees included Moldova’s President Maia Sandu, Minister of Finance Victoria Belous, Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov, AFD’s Executive Director Philippe Orliange, and French Ambassador Dominique Waag. French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Stéphane Séjourné, was also present.
This financing marks the second phase of AFD's support following a successful first tranche in 2023. The six-year program (2023-2028) focuses on decarbonizing Moldova's energy sector, improving renewable energy, and enhancing energy efficiency. It includes a €5 million technical assistance grant from the European Union and will be implemented by Expertise France, an AFD subsidiary.
Victoria Belous highlighted the partnership’s role in Moldova's EU accession efforts, while Victor Parlicov emphasized the program's importance in building a sustainable energy future. Philippe Orliange and Stéphane Séjourné reiterated France’s commitment to Moldova’s energy transition and climate resilience.
