Lithuania Reschedules Second Offshore Wind Auction in the Baltic Sea

Lithuania’s State Energy Regulatory Council (VERT) has set a new date for its second offshore wind auction in the Baltic Sea after the initial attempt in April failed due to a lack of interest. The repeated tender, aimed at establishing a 700MW wind farm, will be announced on November 18, 2024, with the winners expected to be named in June 2025.

After the tender is announced, participants will have 120 days to submit their offers, with a deadline set for March 18, 2025. VERT plans to reveal the list of qualified bidders on April 15, 2025.

Lithuania plans to develop two offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 1.4GW, which are expected to meet around half of the country’s electricity demand. The first auction, held last year, was won by a joint venture between Ocean Winds and Ignitis Renewables. The second auction, however, saw only one participant—state-owned Ignis Group—falling short of the required two bidders for a valid tender.
