Kempower and DP World Partner to Deploy Europe’s First 500A Continuous Charging System
Finnish DC fast-charging manufacturer Kempower and global logistics leader DP World have completed Europe’s first ultra-high-power 500A continuous charging system for Kalmar electric straddle carriers at the DP World London Gateway port.
The project features eight liquid-cooled Charging Satellites, eight 550 kW Power Units, and the Kempower ChargEye Charging management system. The system charges eight electric straddle carriers from 0 to full in just 45 minutes, with a modular design ensuring three to four hours of continuous operation.
The initiative reduces fossil fuel use, noise, vibrations, and harmful emissions, aligning with DP World’s goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2040 and achieving a 28% carbon footprint reduction by 2030.
Jussi Vanhanen, Chief Market Officer at Kempower, highlighted the collaboration: “Our strong relationship with Kalmar ensured seamless integration of our charging system.”
Andrew Bowen, UK COO at DP World, noted: “This green investment builds on five years of converting our hybrid straddle carrier fleet to fully electric operations, aligning with our commitment to net-zero logistics by 2050.”
