JA Solar to Supply Modules for 237.58 MW Photovoltaic Project in Bulgaria
JA Solar, one of the world's largest solar panel manufacturers, has signed a strategic agreement with Bulgarian company Solarpro to supply modules for a 237.58 MW photovoltaic project in Tenevo, part of a hybrid renewable energy complex. The solar plant, scheduled for commissioning in early 2025, is expected to be one of the region's most significant projects.
Solarpro, a leading EPC contractor and technology provider in Europe, will oversee the project's full lifecycle, from design to implementation and monitoring. Installation of the solar panels is set to begin in the third quarter of 2024, with grid connection anticipated by the end of the second quarter of 2025.
"This strategic cooperation is an example of Solarpro's commitment to providing innovative and sustainable energy solutions that drive the transition to a greener future in Bulgaria and beyond," said Krasen Mateev, CEO of Solarpro.
The project is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) with 50 million euros, contributing to the total project value of 161.7 million euros (over BGN 316 million). The developer, Tenevo Solar Technologies EAD, a joint-stock company, will build and operate the solar power plant. The Tenevo hybrid RES complex, near Yambol, will also feature wind turbines and batteries for energy storage.
Future phases will add more than 250 MW of wind power and 250 MW/500 MWh of electricity storage batteries. The solar portion alone can fully meet the annual energy needs of approximately 100,000 households.
The project is a joint investment by Danish company Eurowind Energy and Vienna-based Renalfa IPP, through their joint venture EURA IPP. Solarpro Holding, a multi-technology leader in large-scale RES projects, will execute the project.
