Innova’s 22MW Ham Farm Solar Park Receives Planning Approval from Somerset Council

Innova’s Ham Farm solar project, a 22MW solar park located in Taunton, received planning permission from Somerset Council on 27 June 2024. This marks Innova’s second solar project to receive approval in Somerset this year, following the North Preston solar park (25MW), which was granted permission in February.

Once operational, the Ham Farm solar park will generate enough energy to power 5,500 homes annually, offsetting 4,600 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The site will also contribute significantly to biodiversity, with a strategy targeting a 19% biodiversity net gain (BNG) for site habitats and 16% for hedgerows, surpassing the UK’s mandatory 10% BNG requirement.

Together, Ham Farm and North Preston solar parks will deliver a combined 47MW of solar energy, supporting Somerset Council’s goal of becoming a carbon-neutral borough by 2030.

Rob Parish, Senior Project Manager at Innova, expressed excitement over the approval: “We are thrilled to have received planning approval for the Ham Farm solar park. This is a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved.”

Local resident Vanessa Becker-Hughes, a member of the planning committee, praised the project for its environmental benefits and potential to aid the UK's journey to net zero.
