Gliwice Tests Solaris Urbino 12 Hydrogen Bus on A4 Line, Potential Addition to City Fleet
Gliwice residents are now experiencing the capabilities of the Solaris Urbino 12 Hydrogen bus, which will operate on the A4 line until September 15. This marks the first time the Gliwice Public Transport Company (PKM Gliwice) has tested a hydrogen-powered vehicle. If successful, this bus could become a permanent part of the Gliwice fleet.
The 12-meter-long bus features three outward-opening doors and can accommodate up to 81 passengers. It includes amenities such as air conditioning, a low floor, a passenger information system, and designated areas for the elderly and people with limited mobility. The bus is equipped with a 38-kg hydrogen tank, which the manufacturer claims can power the vehicle for over 350 km.
The ongoing tests will help PKM Gliwice determine the actual distance the hydrogen bus can cover on a single refueling in Gliwice. Additionally, drivers will gain hands-on experience with modern hydrogen technology, understanding the differences in operation compared to existing city buses. These tests could influence the future adoption of hydrogen technology in Gliwice.
