GE Vernova Expands European Onshore Wind Presence with Romania Deal
GE Vernova has secured a significant agreement with Public Power Corporation Renewables (PPC R) to supply, install, and commission 23 of its 6.1-MW 158-meter turbines for a wind farm in Vaslui County, Romania. The deal, confirmed in the second quarter of 2024, will add 140 MW to GE Vernova's existing 700 MW installed capacity in Romania.
Gilan Sabatier, GE Vernova’s Chief Commercial Officer for Onshore Wind in International Markets, emphasized the importance of technology in accelerating Romania's wind energy growth. Initial deliveries for the project are slated for early 2025, with full operation expected by the end of the year.
The collaboration supports Romania’s goal to add 5 GW of wind energy by 2030, aligning with the country’s energy transition strategy. PPC Renewables CEO Konstantinos Mavros highlighted the company’s expanding renewable portfolio, which includes 4.7 GW of production capacity and a pipeline of 20 GW. GE Vernova’s Onshore Wind division, with a global base of 56,000 turbines and 120 GW of capacity, continues to lead the renewable energy sector.
