Electric Car Registrations in Romania Exceed 45,200, Driven by Dacia Spring
Romania's electric vehicle (EV) market has seen substantial growth, with over 45,200 EVs now registered across the country. This figure includes nearly 5,000 new registrations in the first four months of 2024 alone, highlighting the increasing adoption of electric mobility in Romania. According to Lektri.Co’s e-mobility index, January 2024 witnessed a remarkable 60% increase in EV registrations compared to January 2023, though there was a 25% dip in March registrations. Despite the fluctuations, the market shows a strong upward trend.
The Dacia Spring remains the leading choice among Romanian consumers, with 1,490 units registered from January to April 2024, capturing 30% of all new EV registrations this year. This affordable and efficient model continues to drive the market, making electric vehicles more accessible to the general public. Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y are also popular choices, reflecting the brand's global appeal and advanced technology.
In addition to passenger cars, the light commercial vehicle segment is experiencing growth, led by the Ford Transit. This indicates a broader shift towards electrification across different vehicle categories, supporting both personal and commercial transportation needs. High-end brands such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche have also made significant inroads into the market, collectively registering 517 vehicles, which account for 10% of the total EV registrations in 2024.
This surge in electric vehicle adoption is part of Romania’s broader efforts to embrace sustainable transportation and reduce carbon emissions. With supportive government policies and increasing consumer awareness, the EV market is poised for continued growth, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for Romania.
