EBRD and Eiffel Investment Group Fuel Solar Energy Expansion in Poland with €45 Million Loan
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Eiffel Investment Group have collectively extended a €45 million loan to support the construction and operation of 16 solar power plants in Poland, owned by PL-SUN Sp.z.o.o.
This funding is part of a strategic initiative to enhance Poland's renewable energy capacity and contribute to the country's green transition objectives. PL-SUN, backed by Lithuanian investment firm UAB Atsinaujinančios Energetikos Investicijos, aims to significantly expand its renewable portfolio, which currently stands at 250 MW in Poland and Lithuania.
The financed solar projects are expected to generate 122.5 GWh of electricity annually, reducing carbon emissions by 88,000 tonnes each year. This project marks the EBRD's first foray into construction bridge loans, a financing instrument that offers short-term capital for building renewable energy assets. It also signifies the inaugural collaboration under a new partnership between EBRD and Eiffel, established in December 2023 to promote renewable energy investments across central and eastern Europe.
