DTEK to Purchase 200 MW Energy Storage Systems from Fluence Energy Amid Ukraine Energy Crisis

Ukraine's largest private energy company, DTEK, announced plans to acquire energy storage systems with a total capacity of 200 megawatts from a unit of renewable energy storage provider Fluence Energy (FLNC.O). The systems will back up six power stations as Ukraine grapples with an energy crisis caused by intensified Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure, which have disabled about half the country's generating capacity and caused nationwide blackouts.

DTEK plans to have the storage plants operational by October, ahead of the harsh winter season. The facilities will be located at various sites across Ukraine, with storage capacities ranging between 20 MW and 50 MW each. Collectively, these systems will provide approximately two hours of power, sufficient to supply about half the households in the capital city, Kyiv.

"Battery storage is a critical element in Ukraine's vision to build a decentralized energy system that reduces emissions and enhances energy security," DTEK stated. Additionally, the advanced control modes of these systems are expected to enable faster power restoration following outages.
