DTEK Group Acquires Columbus' 133 MW Energy Storage Project in Poland for PLN 130 Million
Ukrainian energy giant DTEK Group has purchased a large-scale energy storage project from Krakow-based Columbus company for an estimated PLN 130 million (EUR 30 million). The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project, set to be built in Balin near the Jaworzno border, will have a capacity of 133 MW and 532 MWh.
The project aims to address issues related to renewable energy sources by storing surplus energy generated by photovoltaics and other renewables, ensuring a steady electricity supply during periods of low production. The initiative represents a significant step towards enhancing energy stability and efficiency in Poland.
In March, Columbus signed a preliminary sale agreement with DRI, a Dutch subsidiary of DTEK Group. Following the environmental decision issued by the mayor of Chrzanów on July 9, the transaction was finalized on July 24. The agreement stipulates that Columbus will receive EUR 9.3 million (PLN 40 million) upfront, with the remaining amount to be paid once the project reaches RTB (ready to build) status, anticipated by January 1, 2025.
This project, the largest of its kind in Poland, is strategically located on a private plot in Balin, spanning from Myśliwska Street to the Jaworzno border. The development underscores DTEK Group's commitment to expanding its renewable energy footprint and bolstering Poland's energy infrastructure.
