Carrefour Expands Photovoltaic Installations Across Poland
Carrefour has expanded its renewable energy initiatives by installing photovoltaic systems on the roofs of 13 stores in five provinces across Poland. The new installations, with a total capacity of nearly 650 kWp, are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 448 tons annually. To offset this level of emissions, approximately 86,000 adult trees would be needed each year.
Sławomir Gomoliński, Asset Director of Carrefour Polska, emphasized the company's commitment to increasing renewable energy usage, aiming for solar energy to power over one-third of its stores by the end of 2024. The newly installed solar panels will supply around 8% of the total annual energy consumption for Carrefour’s stores in Poland.
The solar panels were installed by EDP Energia Polska, part of the global EDP Group, which has been operating in Poland since 2007. EDP Energia Polska also offers a solar-as-a-service model, allowing customers to access solar energy without upfront investment costs. The contractor covers installation and maintenance costs, while customers benefit from lower electricity bills.
Other supermarket chains in Poland, including ALDI, Kaufland, Dino, Biedronka, Netto, POLOmarket, and Lidl, are also investing in photovoltaic installations to power their stores with renewable energy.
