Carlsberg’s ŠUA Brewery Installs 1.5 MW Solar+Storage Plant in Uciana, Lithuania
Carlsberg Group's Lithuanian brewery, Švyturys-Utenos alus (ŠUA), has completed a 1.5 MW photovoltaic power plant on the roof of its Uciana facility, paired with a 2 MWh lithium-ion energy storage system. This marks the largest energy storage installation in Lithuania for an industrial enterprise and is expected to help Carlsberg reach its target of zero CO2 emissions in brewery operations by 2030.
The system, which consists of 3,500 photovoltaic modules, will generate 25% of the brewery’s electricity needs. This is in addition to the existing 1 MW PV plant launched in 2018. The project was implemented in collaboration with Green Genius, which is set to build another PV farm near Butrymańce to further supply renewable energy to the brewery under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The total cost of the project is EUR 7.5 million, with EUR 2.6 million funded by the EU Innovation Fund.
Green Genius's Chief Innovation Officer, Nerijus Virbickas, emphasized the significance of the project, noting it as a model for decarbonizing European industrial companies within just 18 months.
