BYD to Build Factory in Türkiye, Expanding EV Production
BYD, the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) producer, announced plans to build a new factory in Türkiye, significantly boosting its production capacity. The facility, set to be located in the industrial zone of Gebze, will focus on manufacturing electric buses and trucks, as well as lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. This strategic investment aims to enhance BYD's presence in the European market, capitalizing on the region's growing demand for electric vehicles.
Isbrand Ho, Managing Director of BYD Europe, emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating, "Türkiye's strategic location, robust infrastructure, and skilled workforce make it an ideal hub for our operations." The factory is expected to generate thousands of jobs, contributing to the local economy and supporting the country's ambition to become a key player in the global EV market.
Mustafa Varank, Türkiye's Minister of Industry and Technology, welcomed the investment, highlighting the government's commitment to fostering a favorable environment for international investors. "We are delighted to support BYD's growth and look forward to the positive impact on our automotive industry," Varank said.
The project aligns with Türkiye's vision to increase the share of renewable energy in its energy mix and reduce carbon emissions. BYD's new facility will incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies, ensuring high efficiency and sustainability in its operations.
The construction of the factory is scheduled to begin later this year, with production expected to commence by 2025.
