French retailers Auchan and Leroy Merlin have installed more than 27,000 photovoltaic panels across 28 stores in Romania. This initiative covers approximately 20% of each store’s energy consumption, resulting in a total annual energy production of over 14,000 MWh. The project, which includes 16 Auchan stores and 12 Leroy Merlin stores, spans over 63,000 square meters of rooftop space. Each store features around 1,000 panels, with a capacity of 400W per panel, generating 20-30% of the required energy per location.

In collaboration with Helexia, a French energy performance subsidiary of Voltalia, Auchan has expanded its renewable energy initiatives. By the end of 2022, Auchan Romania completed photovoltaic installations on four stores, with Auchan Coresi in Brașov already operational. Auchan aims to reduce energy consumption by 40% and achieve 100% renewable energy use by 2030. The company has also established Auchan Renewable Energy to manage energy procurement and efficiency projects, including solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations.

Leroy Merlin operates 21 stores across Romania, with 3,500 employees in cities such as Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and Brașov.
