Associated British Ports Completes £35m Offshore Energy Hub at Lowestoft
Associated British Ports (ABP) has announced the completion of the £35m Lowestoft Eastern Energy Facility (LEEF) in Suffolk, designed to support the North Sea offshore wind industry. Officially handed over by contractors McLaughlin and Harvey, the facility marks a key milestone in Lowestoft's energy transition and ABP’s commitment to supporting the offshore energy sector.
LEEF features 345m of quayside, three 7.5m draft deep-water berths, fuel, water, and power supplies, and the capacity to accommodate Service Operation Vessels and six crew transfer vessels. It also includes eight acres of storage space, enhancing Lowestoft’s capabilities for operations, maintenance, and new wind turbine construction.
Julian Walker, ABP’s chief commercial officer and regional director, highlighted LEEF as "pivotal" for meeting offshore energy demands and supporting future projects like Sizewell C. Adrian Pollock, operations director at McLaughlin & Harvey, praised the collaboration with ABP in delivering this state-of-the-art infrastructure.
The facility became fully operational this month, with its first vessel welcomed in October. It builds on Lowestoft's role as a base for SSE’s Greater Gabbard and SPR’s EA ONE wind farms, further cementing its position in the southern North Sea energy sector.
