AI and Digital Twin Technology Propel Energy Transformation in Poland

Poland is advancing its energy transformation with the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital twin technology, according to a statement by ISBtech on Wednesday. The innovative approach aims to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and accelerate the shift towards renewable energy.

The project, led by Polish energy company PGE Group in collaboration with Siemens, leverages AI and digital twin technology to optimize energy production and distribution. Digital twins, virtual replicas of physical assets, enable real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance of energy infrastructure.

"Integrating AI and digital twin technology marks a significant milestone in our journey towards a more sustainable and efficient energy system," said Wojciech Dąbrowski, CEO of PGE Group. "This project will not only improve operational performance but also support our commitment to reducing carbon emissions."

The technology will be implemented across PGE's wind farms, solar plants, and energy storage facilities. By creating digital twins of these assets, PGE aims to predict potential failures, optimize maintenance schedules, and enhance overall performance.

Siemens will provide the necessary software and technical expertise for the project. "Our partnership with PGE Group underscores the potential of AI and digital twin technology in transforming the energy sector," said Cedrik Neike, CEO of Siemens Smart Infrastructure. "We are excited to contribute to Poland's energy transition through this innovative project."

The initiative is part of Poland's broader strategy to increase the share of renewable energy in its energy mix to 21% by 2030, in line with European Union directives. The use of AI and digital twin technology is expected to play a crucial role in achieving this goal by improving the reliability and efficiency of renewable energy systems.

The project has garnered support from the Polish government, which views it as a critical step in modernizing the country's energy infrastructure. "Adopting cutting-edge technologies like AI and digital twins is essential for our energy transition," said Anna Moskwa, Poland's Minister of Climate and Environment. "This initiative aligns with our vision of a sustainable and resilient energy future."
