Acciona Energía Secures 12-Year CfD for Croatia’s Largest Solar Plant
Acciona Energía has signed a 12-year Contract for Difference (CfD) with Hrvatski Operator Trzista Energije (HROTE) for the 189MWp Promina photovoltaic plant, currently under development in Šibenik-Knin, southern Croatia. Slated to be Croatia’s largest solar plant upon its 2027 completion, Promina will feature over 300,000 photovoltaic modules generating 320GWh annually, sufficient to power around 69,000 homes and prevent 140,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. The CfD was secured through a competitive public auction as part of a Croatian government and HROTE support program, approved by the European Commission.
Acciona Energía will also construct a 400kV interconnection substation at the site to integrate the energy into the national grid. The project is included in Acciona’s Social Impact Management program, which reinvests part of its annual income into community training, well-being, and environmental management initiatives.
Promina underscores Acciona Energía’s commitment to Croatia’s renewable energy market, complementing its existing wind projects in Opor (27MW) and Boraja 2 (45MW), and the Jelinak wind complex (30MW), operational since 2013. Upon completion, Acciona Energía will be Croatia’s leading clean energy producer, accounting for 8% of the nation’s total installed renewable capacity and 20% of its solar power.
